International Studies Minor
With the global marketplace, there is more call for individuals with knowledge of the world and the ability to speak a foreign language. An International Studies minor works well with a variety of degrees. Students completing majors in Political Science, Women & Gender Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Foreign Language, Geography, History, and Economics will find this minor particularly complimentary. This minor benefits those who plan careers in international business, law, journalism, government, politics, and Foreign Service.
A minor in international studies consists of 21 semester hours, including the same 15 hours required as the core of the major and 6 semester hours of elective courses. In addition, a student is required to take modern foreign language through the intermediate level.
Students are encouraged to complete study abroad courses toward the International Studies minor. Topics courses and independent study credits may fulfill secondary course requirements. Contact the International Studies Coordinator prior to enrolling in any of these options to verify whether the credits qualify, and if so, how they will apply toward completing the major degree requirements.
The Education Abroad Office (UC415) can assist with scholarship applications to offset expenses, including university scholarships, as well as a “beyond the classroom” scholarship toward study abroad, sponsored by the Sociology Department, for which all majors are eligible.
